BIZARRE GOAL SINKS REAL Author: Sportinglife.com, 25 Feb 2008
An extraordinary winner for Getafe against Real Madrid blew the Primera Liga title race wide open on Sunday.
With Barcelona having thrashed Levante 5-1 earlier in the day, the pressure was on Real to get the win which would keep their lead at five points.
And they looked to have finally broken down a resolute Getafe at the Bernabeu when Arjen Robben netted in the second half.
But, while Robben and his team-mates were celebrating, the strike was disallowed - Raul had been offside - and Getafe broke upfield to score through Ikechukwu Uche after 64 minutes.
Defeat for Real means just two points separate them from Barca who saw Samuel Eto'o score a hat-trick against La Liga's basement side.
Xavi gave the Catalans the lead at the Nou Camp in the 14th minute and, although Levante levelled from the penalty spot through Mustapha Riga 41 minutes in, Lionel Messi quickly restored the home side's advantage with a trademark solo goal just before the interval.
Eto'o then struck three times after the break to ensure a comfortable afternoon for Barca.
Villarreal continue to lead the best of the rest after two goals from Guillermo Franco saw them come from behind to win 2-1 at Athletic Bilbao.
Fernando Lorenz scored in the third minute for the home side but Franco netted the equaliser in the 66th minute and hit the winner six minutes from the end.
Atletico Madrid - eliminated from the UEFA Cup by Bolton in midweek - continued to slump as they lost 3-1 at Osasuna.
Javier Aguirre's side were 2-0 down after five minutes thanks to goals from Enrique Sola and Carlos Vela.
Diego Forlan dragged a goal back for Atletico after 26 minutes but Hector Font sealed the win for the home side 14 minutes from time.
Joseba Llorente scored the only goal of the game five minute before half-time to help Valladolid take a big stride away from the relegation zone with a 1-0 win at fellow strugglers Murcia.
Deportivo La Coruna also earned cause to hope they can beat the drop with a 2-0 win over Espanyol.
Fabricio Coloccini and Angel Lafita struck in the space of seven first-half minutes to condemn the Barcelona side to a sixth league defeat in seven games.
Mohamed Tchite fired Racing Santander to a victory over nine-man Almeria that takes the home side a step closer to UEFA Cup qualification.
Domingo Cisma and substitute Veljko Paunovic were sent off late on for the visitors, both following Tchite's winner after an hour.
Edu scored his third goal in three games for Real Betis to cancel out Fernando Varela's strike as they drew 1-1 with Mallorca.
Sevilla continue to close in on the top four following a stunning 5-0 win over Real Zaragoza at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday night.
Luis Fabiano struck twice in the first half to move further clear in the Spanish scoring charts with 19 league goals already this season.
Own goals from Roberto Ayala and Carlos Diogo and a Seydou Keita effort completed a memorable evening for the Andalusians, who move provisionally above Espanyol into fifth place.
Valencia were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Recreativo Huelva.
Ronald Koeman's side dominated for long periods and took the lead through Juan Manuel Mata late in the first half.
But Carlos Martins equalised for Recreativo early in the second period and the visitors soaked up the Valencia pressure in the closing stages to hang on for a valuable point.
